Kurusum is 22 years old and lives in the town of Njeru in the Njeru region of Uganda. For the past two years, Kurusum has been working hard to manage her hardware shop, which deals in selling construction materials.
To help expand her business, Kurusum has requested a loan to buy iron sheets and cement to sell at her store. The proceeds from her store support her young brother who is still at school and her mother's medical bills. Kurusum hopes that in the future her store will be able to growth into a very large and successful hardware business.
Kurusum is also a member of BRAC's Empowerment and Livelihood for Adolescents (ELA) program. In addition to microfinance loans, the program provides both a safe place for young Ugandan women to take part in group activities and a forum for life-skills training.
